Interesting story: we were driving to dinner last night and suddenly saw this poor chicken running across the street from the woods with a cat hot on its tail licking it's chops. My husband immediately pulled over and scared the cat away and this poor thing ran right to him like he was saying "whew, thank you!!!!" We then drove around looking for the house it might have come from but there were no houses to be found. I wonder how long it was running! So we brought it home and now seems soooo happy in the new digs.

So....what IS it? Judging my other chicks I'm guessing around 12 weeks old. Anyone know what breed or sex? Has a small comb and small waddles so we're really hoping that it's not a roo. Can't have them where we live and we're already trying to rehome 2 other 6 week old Speckled Sussex roos. I originally thought RIR with the reddish color and orange legs but I certainly could be wrong. Any ideas? Maybe it's still too early to tell. Let me know if you all need more pics.

Thanks bunches :)

Barnyard mix. It's either a mature hen or a young cockerel. Hard to say without a clue about age or relative size but it appears to be missing feathers so either infested, molting, or juvenile. I'd put my money on juvenile male.

I am on the fence with this one, need a clearer picture of neck and saddle feathers. It looks like a barnyard mix to me as well.

Good of you to stop and save it from being that kitty's dinner!!

OK, I'll try to get a better pic with a different camera. It's not the most photogenic chicken in the world.
