Just a few minutes ago, having walked out to feed Number One the Emu, I was amazed to see a wild emu chick just standing in the house-clearing. Over the next few minutes (peeping through windows and around corners and from behind trees), I was able to watch two of my emus 'front up' and send packing an adult emu and the four (fairly big) chicks that it was shepherding. I've never seen such feather-flaring, and Greedy the Emu escorted them more than a hundred yards into the gums 'So, y'all stay off'n our patch, okay?'
It's most unusual for (truly) wild emus with chicks to approach a human habitation.
