I feed my chickens layer pellets, scratch grains, black oiled sunflower seeds and occasional treats~ apples, veggies, canned veggies & recently Yogurt. Two of my hens had diarrhea & it clumped in their butt feathers which I had to remove, so I was wondering if the yogurt caused the diarrhea ? I have never had this problem, but had never fed yogurt to any of my chickens and am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?

You listed scratch grains and BOSS as part of your chicken's regular diet. You should make sure that they are primarily eating the layer pellets. Scratch grains and BOSS are treats.

I have never had a problem with yogurt causing diarrhea. If you gave them a LOT of it, I suppose it could have caused a problem. I always stir the yogurt into a little layer crumbles and make it about the consistency of thick oatmeal whenever I serve it to my girls. I don't give it often though.

I would suggest removing all treats for a day or two and see if the poo goes back to normal. Then reintroduce treats one at a time, and just a little to see what happens.

OK~ Thank You Very Much ! - I WILL take your advice. My grandmother had lots of chickens & I never wanted them but I have had them for 3 yrs now and absolutely LOVE them ! But still learning many things about them. And the ones that got diarrhea are a new breed for me, just bought them @ Thanksgiving 2010.
