Hi,

I have a hen at the moment who I cannot get to stop laying yolks.
I have a flock of 5 and the other 4 are perfectly happy and laying normal. They have all been wormed recently and I mix grit with their feed and also give them crushed egg shells that have been through the oven as a treat.

This one hen just keeps laying eggs without shells. Not just soft shells but none at all. She is just over a year old and was laying normal for the past 4 months

She does have watery poos which I took as an infection and gave her a 5 day run of amoxicillin to try clear things up but there was no change.

She still eats and behaves as she did before this started

Any ideas or advice on what else it could be would be appreciated?

Thanks for the advice. Is there a recommended dosage for the calcium citrate with D? I only have calcium carbonate + D on hand would that be okay?

I'm feeding them a grain mix which does have admittedly sub par calcium in it which is why I have been mixing in the sea shell grit in and offering them egg shells in the day. I thought what I was doing was balancing it enough but you don't think so?

You can give 300 mg of calcium daily, but no more than 600 mg daily. Carbonate is fine, but the calcium citrate is more quickly absorbed. If the others are doing okay, it may be that this hen is having a problem with her shell gland. Are you in the US? They do best on a layer or an all flock feed that is balanced. If you have a picture of the label or a name that we can look up for ingredients, that would be good. How much is the protein percentage on your label?
