.....your mother says the family's going to do something after her cancer treatments to celebrate...and the first thing that comes to mind is "Hatching eggs!"

when you are a home care nurse and when you have time before you are about to go to a clients house that has chickens.. you show up early just to see the chickens and feed them treats... now when they see my van they come to the driveway to see me

ETA: clients thinks its funny and it keeps them off her patio table.. and when i drive the pickup truck i have to check the box before i leave

....your family gives a great sigh whenever you open your mouth, because they know exactly what you're going to talk about.

the first thing you do when you get up in the morning is check on the baby girls. And the first thing when you walk in the door is check on the baby girls. And the last thing you do at night is check on the baby girls......you get the drift! And inbetween you watch chick tv all afternoon. (My chicks like to get a "special" piece of pine shaving and run around with it like mad. The others chase her and try to grab it. And it's just a piece of shaving like all the others. Funny!

When ALL you can think about is 'bator tv.......waiting for chick tv & this is your first hatch......praying for a broody because the auctions you just won are going to overflow the new 'bator that's coming in the mail Monday & the home-made one in the living room...that has 12 eggs cooking away....


Oh and how am I going to justify ALL the eggs that are coming in the mail...

I know I'll get an eye roll! SHHHH....don't tell!

When you spend the first few nights waking up to check on them as if they were like a real human baby. Countless sleepless nights just checking to see if they are warm enough,

When you don't have a brooder for your freshly hatched chicks, BECAUSE you bought 8 3-dayolds on impulse last weekend and put them in the prepared brooder

When your bator has a waitlist, and is booked until May. And you just can't give a "stable" chicken population, because it is growing every week.

When you have 14 6-week-olds, 6 newly hatched(testing your chickens eggs!!), and you just cleaned out the bator so you could set 20-something more. AND your already telling the BF theres gonna be an egg shortage in a couple weeks so you can set the next batch! and you plan on keeping them ALL!!!(well rooster soup when they're big and grown!!!)

Or you're doing some project birds so it gives you the excuse to hatch, hatch, hatch and have MORE chickens!!!

but also because you love PRETTY birds!!!

When all of your friends and acquaintances suddenly "can't talk now" as soon as you start saying the word chickens.

OR

When the first page you go to in the morning is BYC and the last one you go to at night before bed is BYC, and the one you spend time you should be doing laundry and dishes you're on BYC.

OR

When you spend so much time researching things about chickens and taking a posting pictures and comparing them with everyone else's that you husband starts calling it 'chicken porn' and says you are addicted.
