You know I was thinking of a reason to hatch some eggs. like you really need a reason but....if you put eggs in right now they would start laying about March. How perfect!
Bad thing (good?) is that today I was given a homemade incubator. It was left outside last night and so I am drying out the dew that collected. I will be bringing it in tonight. I am afraid to plug it in though. it doesn't look too safe, and I already am thinking of some modifications. I will take a pic of it and post it.
Ok so I took several pictures. the bottom is loose from the top. The top is heavy so it could crush some eggs so I would need to work on that. The bottom has chicken wire for the bottom so not insulated at all.
I am beginning to wonder if I should even use it. The more I look at it the scarier it gets. :|
BUT with all the great home made bators on here...well I may just run to the hardware store and pick up a few things.
Oops, Hubby (the electrician) says that was a "not so bright thing to say, no way to see if it has electrical problems".
The second 2 pics are showing the top of the bator 'upside down', right?

You're right , it doesn't look safe, I think you should pack it in a big box and send it to me. I will let you know what I find out.... may take a couple months.
The person that gave it to you, did they have any info... what did they hatch ??
(bear in mind that no one ever listens to me)
I'd plug it in and see what it does.
If it holds tight temps, then you have an incubator!
It looks 'shallow' and *close*, but I'd bet it worked to hatch eggs.
Test it and keep up posted!
