Hi. In the winter, you can put her wet food into an electric plug in dog dish.

Thank you Dragonfly Farm, I had thought of that but think it will probably still freeze up. I did pick up a large 5 quart electric dog dish for water for the flock and a small electric dish for her food already.

Does your Beakie stay out with your flock full time or is she more of a pet chicken now?

Hi. Beakie is always out with her sisters. However, in the winter, we are lucky enough to go to South Carolina for a few months. Because she has to have her smoothies, I take her with us…I don’t know any chicken-sitters interested in making smoothies 2xday and bathing a hen 2-3xweek!!
I bet you could put your chick’s mushy meals in a bowl and set the bowl in the heated dog dish of water, double boiler style. ? you’ll figure it out and soon you’ll be catering to that thing 3xday like me….Beakie does certainly lay beautiful, delicious eggs…I figure each egg probably costs me $10.00!!

I have been pulling Cindy-Lou out and letting her eat on her own in a separate plastic pet enclosure to try and contain the mess she makes while eating.

Beakie is very lucky you love her so much that she gets to travel for the winter. I don’t think you’d have success finding a pet sitter to help in that situation. I’m hoping not to have to start making smoothies for Cindy-Lou at this point. I still need to get to the feed store for the pellet feed to try with her.

Maybe I love her and maybe I can’t bear to wring her skinny little neck. Which ever it is, I just keep running the blender and giving her showers!!

The food flinging is starting to get to me…My other 4 ladies throw their crumbles all over the place then tell me they are starving.

I’ll be switching to pellets after I use up the crumbles, they waste less of the pellets.
