I am new to raising chickens. I have only had chickens for a little over a month and I noticed that one of the chickens has a bald butt that is realy red. The chicken is too young to lay eggs. Does anyone know what this is caused by or what can be done about it? Any help is strongly appriciated. Thank You

This was posted last night - how is your chick today? Sounds like it could be cocci, do a search there is lots of info on how to treat and which med to use. Perhaps someone with more experience will jump in on this one. It's either Sulmet or Corid to use. I've read you do need to treat asap - cocci can kill.

She seemed to be doin ok she was first to food when we fed them. Should I seperate her from the rest so it doesn't spread if it is cocci? Is it possible that it could be cocci even though she doesn't have runny or bloody poop?

It is possible that the other chicks are ripping out her feathers to calm themselves down. I've had chickens that have what sound like what yours do, and it was because they were too confined and had targetted each others rears as stress releasers.
