Hi I am new here, and relatively new to having chickens, my husband and I have 2 flocks, one is about 2 years old with 20 hens and a rooster, and we have a new batch of chicks (30 mixed sex and mixed breeds) this year, we got them in May and for now we are keeping them seperate from the older birds as there were some issues when we tried to intergate both.

In the last few weeks I've noticed that some of the young birds (5 or so) have broken toes, one toe (middle) is bent completely sideways. I didn't pay a lot of attention because it didn't seem to bother the birds at all, but last week I found 2 birds huddled in a corner injured, one appears to have a broken leg, she can't use it much at all, and the other seemed to have an injured leg and wing. I am wondering now if they have been fighting eachother and that is causing the injuries? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

For now I have the two injured birds each in a seperate cage that I had (but they are small and I feel bad that they are so confined) but if I let them out with the rest of the flock the other birds start to pick on them and they can't run away. I don't know if they will recover from these injuries or if I should end their suffering now. They are eating and drinking and seem in good health otherwise.

I have included some photos of the sideways toes:

For the toes and the legs get tape and tape them straight or you can get a foam padding for the legs and tape it around the legs. It should heal quick considering they're young. Also do the chickens have enough room in the place they're in because the closer they are the more territorial they become.
