Last week I isolated a young hen she may be about 8 months a production red, she was bleeding from the Vent I clean her and applied blue kote, she is in with another young hen, the two have a 12 x 12 pen, which I keep for new hens or injured or sick ones.
Today I saw that she attemped to lay an egg or so Ithought, (I do not know if she has begun laying as I got her two weeks ago) her vent was bleeding again, cleaned it applied blue kote, could she have an internal infection, I have not see this before unless when they are moulting and the other hens peck at the vents. Any ideas.? She is eating, alert, talking etc.
The other problem, is three weeks ago I chased a fox with a shovel about 5:30 a.m. after Ilet the hens out they are all fenced in all 30 of them, a fox got in, I chased him with shovel I should say it, I injured it and it scaled the chain link fence, several young hens were injured but, I applied blue kote and they are ok. Even the under one year have not returned to laying eggs, dribs and drabs.
Any suggestions I upped their protein I usually feed either Ventura made locally or Nutrena, I purchased Agway 21 percent protein on Sunday, I do also during the week give the hens alfalfa grass for nutrients and they can scratch for seeds.
