I am raising my third batch of young hens and the last two have the bad habit of flying up into the pine trees near run and roosting there for the night. I have a fine coop for them top sleep in but they are opting for the trees. I trimmed up all the branches over the run but now they fly out of the coop and hop into the trees. I trimmed one wing on each bird and it had no effect. How can I break this habit???

Were the young hens raised in the coop? Are there other, older birds making it uncomfortable for them to roost in there?

Is there enough space in the coop? New birds take time to fit into the flock, and there must be a lot of extra roost space for them, separately if possible.
Birds in trees will get killed at night, so lock them in for a week or two (with adequate space!) until they decide to sleep in their coop.

First determine if there is something in the coop that is scaring them, are there other chickens, do they have enough roosting room, there could be many different things causing them to not feel comfortable in the coop at night. If it is safe lockem up!

Good luck!
