A couple of mornings I have gone out early to the chicken pen/coop and have found broken eggs, rubbery shells, that look to be laid during the night from roosting poles?? Of course a few of my hens go after the egg to eat the yolk and white parts. I scooped them up as quick as possible. My hens are young and just started laying eggs. They are 5 1/2 months old now. I bought them in Baja Mexico but have been raising them on Tractor Supply chicken feed starting with the Starter, to Grower, to Grower/Finisher, now Layer Feed. Also provide oyster shell. These chickens are a mix of probably Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock, Buffed Orphingtons maybe and I have 12 of them. They are a good size and very healthy. Two days ago I collected 7 eggs so I know 7 hens are laying. They were small but normal. My question is, will they possibly lay their first eggs from the roost at night?? Is this normal?? Or can this be normal??

Yes, it can be normal.
New layers often lay softshell eggs and they often are laid in odd places at odd times.
It should smooth out in time, within a few weeks.

You may have more starting to lay than you think.
Having group of pullets just starting to lay is a good time to start with regular exams.
The pelvic point spacing is good to note as well as what a healthy vent looks like.

FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.
