Hello,

My name is Joyce and I live in SE Portland. My daughter (grown with her own babies) has tried her hand at raising baby chicks.
Last August she bought 3. They lost one early on and most recently has lost one to a visiting dog. "Ginger" seems very upset and misses her sister. Pullets are in order but to help ease the loss immediately can anyone suggest where to find young hens that might be familiar with an urban environment. They have children, cats etc. If we buy hens from Craig's List we don't know how untamed they might be. The family hens have been very friendly. We are new at raising chickens and any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Joyce

Hello Joyce, I am sorry to hear about your daughters losses

and hope you have luck finding the last girl a buddy. I can only suggest that you check out the Farmer's Markets (when they start, if they haven't already) as I know that in our neck of the woods, those folks often have flocks and may be able to help you. Good Luck Beth

from Indiana. I would buy one from Craigslist but before you introduce them, you will need to quarantine them initially to make sure the new bird is not sick.
