young lady is not well

I have a young hen that has a running nose and has green and brown diarrhea and she tends to want to sleep a lot haven,t notice anyeles yet but what do ya,ll honk she could be getting and what do I do to treat it. If so I would not like to Lowe her she is a good hen and a friendly one at that

How old is she? Do you have a flock? How old are they? Have you ever wormed them?

Give us the following information. The more you tell us, the better we will be able to help you.

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Remember that we are not veterinarians. We help based on our own research and experiences.
We cannot monitor the board 24/7, and therefore do not guarantee we can always help, much as we would wish to.

Use the Search here on BYC... Search "worming" and "Worming with Valbazen".. and "giving oral medications"... look for posts by dawg53 on worms and worming.. also check the hen for parasites / external.. look for mites on her vent or under her wings ("armpit skin"). Also search "normal poop".. there is a link to a UK site with pictures of what's normal and what's not...

Also... if she is young, just started laying.. how long has she been laying? Has she stopped? Is she trying to lay but can't?

You might also use the Search.. Search "Eggbound"... new layers can get eggbound and there is a treatment for that.. you will need to check her and treat her for eggbound if you suspect it.. read up...

A hen can die from eggbound -- and the treatment can't hurt them (if you are careful not to break any egg you feel inside them).
