Hello fellow chicken lovers!
We are hoping to find a home for our 13 week old Buff Laced Polish Roo, Prince Layer, formally known as Princess Layer and Lemon Head, our 9 1/2 week old Porcelain D’Uccle Cross. We bought several straight run chicks and most of them turned out to be roosters.
We live in the city limits of San Jose, CA and unfortunately aren’t allowed to keep roosters. We have tried rooster collars but, haven’t had much success. Prince Layer, the Polish, is really sweet and we hate to have to part with him but, he is definitely crowing now. We actually ended up with 8/10 cockerels in our straight run chicks. These two are crowing the most at the moment so, are a priority to find homes for now. Lemon Head, the Porcelian chick, was sold to us as a Porcelian D’Uccle but, we think he’s actually mixed with an OEGB. The woman we bought him from also had OEGB’s. The reason we think he’s a cross is because he doesn’t have a beard and very little foot feathering or vulture hocks. He also has huge waddles for such a little bantam rooster. He‘s really feisty and has been separated from the other boys. He‘s super sweet to us though and loves to cuddle into the crook of your neck. He’s been raised indoors and loves his people time. Both have been eating organic chick starter crumbles with lots of fresh veggies and fruit from our garden. Cherries are their favorite!
We are really hoping someone who will love them as much as we do will adopt them soon. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested. We will also have a blue bantam Cochin carrying the frizzle gene, a Self Blue D’Uccle, and a couple Silkies hopefully after these two guys find a home. Only the Cochin, Lemon Head, and Prince Layer are crowing loud enough to notice at this point.
