My favorite girl gave me a bit of a fright last night and I still have no idea what was going on.
Went out to the girl's pen to move the roo back in with the boys and my shmoozy turkey girl Cranberry lays down in front of me on the ground submissively and one of my fiestier pullets decides to be a bit if a mean girl, which she just lets happen.
Very odd behavior for her - she usually takes it upon herself to be the flock guardian, so tried to get her back onto her feet, but she'd just slump right back down, wings a bit splayed and panting.
Brought her inside and gave her a bit of a physical. She seemed to be tensing when I checked her left leg\hip area and was lighy panting, had good color and was plenty alert, so I was thinking maybe an injury. Massaged it out, really looking for possible breaks or joint isdues. Separate her out into quarantine for the night so I could monitor.
I get her out this morning and she's back to her usual self like nothing happened! I'm glad she seems fine now, but what gives?
Do you think she was injured? Maybe she got into it with the roo? She is not a fan and tends to chase him from time to time. The run is covered so she can't get up any higher than 2 meters if it were a fall. Are turkeys just big babies when they get hurt even over minor things? Cranberry is a big lap baby and begs me for attention constantly when I'm in the run and has been known to fall asleep on my lap.
Was really worried for my girl and will be watching her today, for sure. Any other things I should keep an eye out for? This is one of those situations where I wish I had a cold laser for treating joint issues and muscle aches.
