Our four and a half month chick got pecked on the neck/head by some of our older chickens, and she is missing feathers and theirs blood. Then to make it worst she had a dust bath and got dirt in it. Do you know what will help heal, and stop the hens picking on her?

You can mix vaseline and pine tar and put it on the wounds. You will have to keep applying it but it tastes nasty so they wont want to peck at her. Depending on the severity you might want to seperate her until she is fully healed. You can try blukote but i havent had much success. Im trying out the pine tar on my bird today.

Vetricyn is great stuff for injuries like that- wash it out as best you can with water - then spray vetricyn (if you have it- a bottle is a little spendy but lasts a LONG time) on the wound and a little antibiotic cream. Keep her separate until it heals If there was blood that landed anywhere else on her from this - wash that out too- mild dish soap or cat shampoo -- the smell of blood brings out the WORST in chickens.
