Hi everyone!

Well this short and fun trip to the local garden and agriculture store one day to let the kids "hold baby chicks" turned into us coming home with a bunch of new members to our family. Chickens can really consume your thoughts! I had no idea LOL.

DH and I finally decided on a coop for our girls. It's a 10x20 shed and will be delivered next week. I'm SO excited over how pretty it is!!! Now the hard part is deciding where to put it. It's going to be sectioned off on the inside so that we can store some things like bikes and totes in one half and the chickens will have the run of the other half. We talked about putting a wall in to separate, and to keep the chicken feathers/dust on one side so that everything doesn't end up covered completely in a ton of dust but then I've seen a lot of pics of the wall inside of sheds being mostly chicken wire, so I'm not sure how that would work if we used half as a storage shed.

Below is a pic similar to what we purchased. We plan to have at least half of it used for the chickens. We'll need space enough for 25 chicks, as long as none turn out to be cockerels. It has a loft on each side of the shed inside and DH may extend one of the lofts even more for storage.

I'm wondering what everyone's favorite pics are for the inside of coops so I can get some ideas (or everyone's tips on converting sheds). The shed has two windows, but we will definitely need to add some more ventilation towards the top on the ends of the shed. We're in southern Ohio so we do have 4 seasons but generally we have very few days below zero F and usually in the 20s or 30s in winter. Summers can be very hot and humid (high 80s and 90s at the hottest).

We would like to add nesting boxes to the outside of the coop too. We have a few months for that though. Any ideas or tips are welcome!

I would definitely recommend sectioning it off with a wall because everything will be coated with the stuff if you don't!! I remember cleaning my candle shop out after raising a few hundred chicks in it. It was a nightmare!

Ditto Dat^^^ big time!
The dust in unreal!
See My Coop page for some ideas(other than the mesh wall-ha!!)
You could put some mesh openings, with a solid cover/door, in the separation wall.

Are the eaves open for ventilation?
Do those windows open from the top or the bottom?
What kind of run do you have planned?

10x10 might be tight for 25 birds.
I encourage you to get out some graph paper and start sketching,
don't be afraid to try several different layouts.
You could draw the building as is on one sheet,
then use tracing paper for overlays to try various options.

Love your question...I was about to post the same request! I’m building out a walk in coop for my chicks (first timer!) and I’m realizing I have no good INTERIOR ideas! I hope lots of pics get posted for all of us newbies!

Definitely! My husband and I were talking about that the other day. We are actually running a woodshop dust collector in the area where we keep the chicks right now to keep down on the dust we're breathing inside so we need to remember that the dust will be in the coop too!

Your coop is amazing! I've been stressing over the size too. DH says we'll probably end up with more roos than we think which means the number we keep will go down. The hens will be in our yard a lot so hopefully the space will be okay. We do have 10 acres, but most likely the chickens will be in a run most of the time except when we can supervise them free ranging.

My husband actually woke up last night middle of the night not able to sleep because he was thinking about how to design the interior. LOL we'll have to figure it out soon as the building will be arriving next week.
