Chickie7
In the Brooder
Well this short and fun trip to the local garden and agriculture store one day to let the kids "hold baby chicks" turned into us coming home with a bunch of new members to our family. Chickens can really consume your thoughts! I had no idea LOL.
DH and I finally decided on a coop for our girls. It's a 10x20 shed and will be delivered next week. I'm SO excited over how pretty it is!!! Now the hard part is deciding where to put it. It's going to be sectioned off on the inside so that we can store some things like bikes and totes in one half and the chickens will have the run of the other half. We talked about putting a wall in to separate, and to keep the chicken feathers/dust on one side so that everything doesn't end up covered completely in a ton of dust but then I've seen a lot of pics of the wall inside of sheds being mostly chicken wire, so I'm not sure how that would work if we used half as a storage shed.
Below is a pic similar to what we purchased. We plan to have at least half of it used for the chickens. We'll need space enough for 25 chicks, as long as none turn out to be cockerels. It has a loft on each side of the shed inside and DH may extend one of the lofts even more for storage.
I'm wondering what everyone's favorite pics are for the inside of coops so I can get some ideas (or everyone's tips on converting sheds). The shed has two windows, but we will definitely need to add some more ventilation towards the top on the ends of the shed. We're in southern Ohio so we do have 4 seasons but generally we have very few days below zero F and usually in the 20s or 30s in winter. Summers can be very hot and humid (high 80s and 90s at the hottest).
We would like to add nesting boxes to the outside of the coop too. We have a few months for that though. Any ideas or tips are welcome!
