I would like to hear your opinion:
Would you rather keep your flock contained (in pen/run) or free-range?
You must admit though, you cannot resist the gorgeous sight of a beautiful flock roaming your yard....And them yolks...So bright......Mmmmmm!

I chose both. My chickens have a coop and a fully protected and covered 15x15 pen that opens up to a 1/4 acre chicken yard with plenty of grass, trees for shade that is surrounded by electric net fencing. I tried true free ranging when I started out, and got sick of losing 1-2 chickens and ducks a month to predators.

I'd like to let my flock freerange and go where ever they want. I did that for almost a full year. But then, the fox discovered them, and mayhem ensued. So now, they get to roam around in a safe area surrounded by 650' of electrified poultry net. Sometimes, if I'm going to be outside and around, I'll let them out to explore.

Yeah. A very large space is great though. Mine are confined in a good sized pen 24/7.....Unless they escape
