Ok, i have been reading all your posts on roo's or hens, and it has me wondering. As a first time chick owner do i need to wait till it crows to know? I have one thats crown is bigger than the rest, this is also the one that come running to me the minute i put my hand in the tub. But is also one of the biggest. Here are the pics.

Now here are the pics of the one who came to me with a green mark on her head (the hatchery said they do this to the boys so the stores can tell them apart. THis one is very skittish and runs from me when i try to pick her!

What do you think????

That first one looks roo-ey to me.

The blue dots from Ideal usually mean it is a Leghorn, not a boy. It depends on who your hatchery is.

Sorry, that's not entirely correct. Ideal marks their male chicks too, sometimes with blue, sometimes with other colors. I asked that my roos be marked when I ordered from Ideal. My light brahma roo was marked with blue. The buff brahma roo was marked with a maroon color.
To the OP - sorry, but I see two baby roos in those pics. The second one is iffy, but I still think it's a roo.

Good to know!

I trust MY feed store lady, but I don't trust the other people at the other feed stores
