I would like to give my flock their own turkey dinner tomorrow night. I would like to just throw in the turkey carcass and let them have at it, but I am nervous about them choking on little bones. I thought it would give them something to do, but do you think it's better to strip all of the meat off first?

Me too. They will pick it clean.

That's interesting, I didn't even realize they would eat meat. I guess it doesn't cause mad chicken disease.

Chickens are descendants of dinosaurs, think velociraptors.
In other words, be very careful you never hit your head and get knocked out while standing in the chicken yard.

It's not a good thing when chickens get bored...then they are more likely to turn to one another, pecking and pulling feathers. Far better to combine activity with nutrition: toss in the turkey carcass and they'll spend the day getting every little morsel pecked clean. Hang a cabbage just about/just over head high and they'll decimate it in a day, jumping, pecking, getting all the goodness from the head. Here's to their Thanksgiving feast! ~G

I would also love to throw out that sort of thing for our chickens. The only thing is they won't eat it. They throw a hairy fit as soon as they see, say a turkey wing or what not, and don't go anywhere near it even after being left to their own devices. They don't even seem to get curious. They act like you're trying to feed them their own feet or something.
