Blue Kote actually does an excellent job of covering that type of wound, plus it deadens the pain. You don't want anything that is going to stay wet. I have seen wounds like that cover over in a few days if taken care of properly.

Do you have blue kote spray? I have used it with good results on chickens, keep her /it warm and dry and try to get the bleeding stopped. If it makes the night you have a good chance of it pulling through. It will be in shock for a few days and you may have to force feed and water. Good luck

Depending on what breed they are, pullets hatched this past spring should lay all winter as long as they have good food and thawed water. Extra light also helps, but I have never needed it for 1st year layers. Hope everyone has a great Christmas.

I did the NYD hatch last year, I hatched out about 100 chicks, I sold most of them. But not doing it this year. My coop is not warm enough for baby chicks and having a bunch of chickens in my basement till April/May was not my idea of fun. It did get warm enough here today to open my pop doors...
