I have noticed when I have mine outside, they seek shade rather that sun. I think they get too hot on their necks! (Charleston, SC.)

    Rooster attack

I had the same experience as you have had. My roo thought I was one of his "girls"! I had to really watch what I wore, what I did, and never turn my back! I have since heard that you really can't make a pet of a male chicken or sheep, they will forever 'own' you if you try. I gave him to a...

    Differance Of Two

As I have done further reading, I believe him to be a Silver Leghorn Duckwing Bantam. (?)

    Differance Of Two

I thought it showed up on the post(?) Black and white whith greenish sickle feathers and with striping on some of the white feathers. Single comb.

    Differance Of Two

Could someone tell me what kind of rooster I have? he looks just like the one in the picture that is with my post. I have looked up "Duckwing" and 'Silver Leghorn" and they show the same picture for both breeds! I have seen a picture of the Dorking and he looks like that too (but no five toes)...

    Chickens And Spiders?

Well thanks for the answers. The brown widow has become very well known here in SC lately. She's just like the black but brown with red hour-glass on underside and they say the bite is even worse than the black widow's. Their egg sacs look like tiny under water mines, or sandspurs but round...

    Chickens And Spiders?

Finally, I finished my dog/chicken run yesterday. 10 x 10 x 6. (it's really a dog run, but I keep three Bantams in it) I can finally walk through a gate and not have bird mesh catch on my curlers in the am! It is wonderful! While I was cleaning up the old pen, I found one Black Widow spider and...

    Rooster acting wierd

There are more to these chickens that meets the eye! So much to learn about them. He has always been the easy one to catch and hold and doesn't seem to mind it at all. I carry them at least twice a day, all three at the same time, and they seem really interested in where they are going. They...

    Rooster acting wierd

WEEELLLL...I'm feeling a little giddy. I have already said he was a 'laid back handsome guy' and now you guys tell me he likes me!? The feelings are mutual anyway you look at it! The digging / nesting things happens when they are on the back porch in shavings on a concrete floor. (I have seen...

    Rooster acting wierd

Well, I think my 'singing hen' is really a rooster, but I like the 'singing hen' description best,(for the neighbor's sake-) I believe him to be a silver leghorn bantam. Really a laid back handsome guy. He's 4 months now and has been acting like he's trying to dig a nest or something while...

    Chickens as therapy animals

Thanks for that, I never thought about shots! I have had this bird for just over 3 mos., and from two days, he was the easiest to pick up and handle. I always thought he was a hen, but the crowing proved me wrong. I thought a bantam had a lower decible crow, but found out that he's a silver...
