I was the same when our first chick was hatched. The advice I was given on here was to leave with mother just to watch incase mother hen doesn't like the motherhood then 2 take chicks away.
I have 2 say our hen has raised the chick the chick is now 9 and a half weeks old and mother hen is...
9 and a half weeks old. I thought cockerel esp with having green bits in the feathers( I was once told the male bird has green colours 2 attract the female). The chick in constantly with the father now never leaves his side
I'll get a full view pic of him later on. Would you know what breed?
When I got our original birds( chicks mother and father) the place I got them said they were silkie cross Sussex birds
This was our first ever chick raised by us.
What a difference we've noticed between buying chicks and our hens having their own.
When I bought our original girls approx a year a go they were featherless, scared, looked lost and skinny.
Our baby chick(now a couple months old) has all it's...
Thanks for your advice after reading your comment I rushed back out 2 sneak some eggs back under her. She moved from the spot she was and indeed there were more than 1 egg under her so that's put my mind at ease, I put the rest of the eggs under her. I think we are about 2 enter week 3 of her...
So our hen has been sat on 13 eggs up until now, I wasn't convinced they'd all be chicks/fertile so posted on the forum before.
I've just been out 2 candle the eggs 2 find the chick is now only sitting on one egg and has buried the rest under straw. 11 eggs were together under the straw and...
How long was it before you removed the other 5? We don't know 100% how many weeks she's been sat on these. Think this maybe be week 3 coming up now tho so won't belong before any hatch(if we are correct)
So I read somewhere that if you get a muffin tin add corn in each pocket top up with a little water and freeze, in the hot weather the chicks love them and go crazy over them.
I've just tried that and I have 2 say they loved it. They went for them straight away and even left the feed I had...
Our hen is currently sat on 13 eggs (I peaked when she went 4 feed and drinks and counted egg number)I've peaked a few times with her being on the eggs and 3 of the eggs seemed 2 be next 2 her but not right under her then next time she had covered them all.
Just wonder if it's possible for all...
Our chick is now 7weeks old and mother hen doesn't seem 2 bother with it at all. In fact the chick spends most of the time with the rooster even sits under the ro. Mother hen seems 2 be spending most of her time in the coop now so didn't know if she's starting 2 lay again
Ha ha I love it very clever, I'd of never thought of a playhouse one of a kind.
Wonder how my children would feel if I turned their playhouse into the new coop lol
We used the green poison seeds also tried big cheese products which are a paste like poison, got told 2 put tuna in the traps done that(the tuna has gone but no rats in trap) so I'm going 2 try peanut butter next.
