Hello All, It's been a while since I've been on this thread. Glad to see everyone is doing well! I have a stunning Black Jersey cockerel that is about 6 months old. Would anyone want him? His dad is a stunner and is HUGE. I can't keep him and would like to not have him end up on the dinner...

I have an EE roo hatched in mid Jan who found his voice this morning. Can't keep him. Anyone want him? He's half Jersey Giant and looks like one. Should grow to 10lb or more since dad is 13+lbs.

    Black Jersey Giant thread!!!!!

Hi kelsieann124, Yes! My JG girls are noticeably larger than their flockmates. This holds true with my other mixed breeds that are half JG (I have a JG roo that is 13lbs and stands at over 25"). They are all very good sized. I love my jersey girls and can't get enough of them.

All, I have two half Jersey Giant baby roos (about 8 weeks old, hatched mid-January) if anyone is interested. Free to a good home. Their dad is a stunning jersey that stands at about 2 1/2 feet tall.

Topic of the Week - Raising Chicks

For my brooding girls, I bring them a couple of handfuls of mealworms each day and raw oats for breakfast. I know some people say don't feed them while they're on the nest, but so far I've not had issues with them pooping in the nesting box. It really helped to keep my girls healthy and going.

I have fruit trees - I get the fruits (ok, more like the girls get first pick) and they get the greens.

I have a brood of January hatch.I have one more that is struggling to hang on. Its hatch was interrupted and I tried to move it under a different hen so it can get out of the shell in peace. Well, I came home a few hours later to find it had been 'kicked' out of the nest and was cold to the...

What a beautifully written article. I loved every word of it. Your story reminded me of my first loss... I cried for 2 days when I lost my favorite hen to respiratory issues. I couldn't save her and she died in my arms. I've lost a couple more since her... and while it gets easier each time, I...
