We have some meat birds, our first run of it. It's amazing to me how different they are from our layers. The layers were curious, but these meat birds just want to sit around, eat, and make fertilizer! Makes me feel less bad that I am eating them in a couple months. :-)

Dumb question - how do you find out about swaps? Are they usually advertised somewhere?

We got our first egg today!!! When I went to check on them and swap out water at lunchtime I noticed one of our RIRs hanging out in the coop while the others were all out in their attached greenhouse. And then when I went to close them up I looked and sure enough, an egg! Unfortunately - it...

It was about 8 below in my coop this am and the girls didn't seem to care to all. Yesterday they stayed in the coop all day but today they got smarter and went to the attached greenhouse - much cozier!

My birds didn't venture out at all today, hehe. Just hanging out in the coop. I've changed their water several times as the heated one isn't quite keeping up! Good news is I've made a lot of progress on the ice rink for the kids. :-)
