What treat did your chickies get today?

I'm in southern NH, east of Manchester. We got a little more snow today. Gotta love New England weather. Play golf on Monday, ice hockey on Wednesday, then mow the lawn on Friday. I think the last time I was in the Hudson Valley we were following the wine trail. Beautiful area.

What treat did your chickies get today?

We got an early spring snow overnight and it's a blustery morning. The girls got warm barley malt grain and leftover rice for breakfast.

    New Hampshire!

Hi , Not sure if you're into the pure breed / competition thing. We're just in it for the eggs at our house. We've gotten chicks from Dodge Grain on rte 28 in Salem and I know they'll take specific orders all year long.

    Not RI Reds?

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the responses. before they got their feathers they were chipmunk colored and my wife kept saying she didn't think they were reds. Looks like I'll have to tell her she was right. We usually keep a flock for a few years until production drops noticeably...

Thank you so much for posting this information. We just processed our flock of 9 hens. It was our first time processing a bird and this article helped more than I can say.

why do some people put fake eggs in nesting box

We use cheap golf balls to encourage ours to lay in the nests. Our chickens can't read. ;)

    Laying eggs on ground

With our last batch of 6 they refused to lay in the 2 nests we had. They would lay on the coop floor in a corner. Not always the same corner but always in a corner. I suspect that they didn't all refuse since they tend to lay where another chicken already has. It only takes one to start a...

    Good treats for baby chicks?

I hadn't heard that onions are bad but I did hear that large amounts of the avocado skin is toxic. Also, raw potato skin is toxic.
