    Is this normal?

Yes her eyes opened and she’s fluffier. Other eggs are peeping with some cracks but this early chick seems bored. She climbs over other eggs, constantly cheeping (presumably to be let out).

    Is this normal?

Good morning! I woke up to this loud munchkin! Her eyes are shut but she gets up and chirps. Then goes to sleep. Do their eyes take time to open? Also do I leave her in there for a day or move her to the electric hen (heat plate)? First time hatching. Not sure what’s normal.

    First time hatching

15 day old eggs are welsummers, aracuana and silver laced Wyandottes. welsummers are impossible to see because of dark shell. Aracuana blueish eggs with very thick shell. Can’t tell anything. Silver laced seems like there’s a distinct air pocket. 8 day olds, I can’t tell if I am seeing a bit of...

    First time hatching

Hello all, A bit of background. A bit complicated. My hen went broody. After trying so many things, I couldn't break her out of it. So I thought fair enough. I decided to buy fertilised eggs So she could raise them. I bought eggs from 2 different sellers. One of them arrived within 2 days. The...

Alert but legs not working- all is well now

Here’s the product info. It doesn’t look like there’s vitamins in it. Just protein. I’ll cook up an egg for her. Thank you so much

Alert but legs not working- all is well now

I should have said, the reason she seems like she's molting is because she's a rescue hen. You should have seen them about 4 weeks ago when I ago when I adopted 6 of them. Hardly any feather on them, a bit smelly, over all in very poor condition. This is her looking her best so far. She's...

Alert but legs not working- all is well now

I read the other thread talking about the same. The chicken seems fine after a bit of TLC. She even laid an egg. A bit wobbly still but ok so far...

Alert but legs not working- all is well now

This morning opened the coop to let the chickens out. This one didn't come out. On inspection, I found her laying with one leg stretched behind her. I picked her up and inspected the foot and the rest of the body. No visible injury. Last night they all went to bed per normal. She's alert and...

Broken egg shell but no egg

I just collected eggs from the coop. One of the eggs had broken egg shell stuck to it. No sign of any egg insides, just a whole egg with another partial shell loosely stuck. I am wondering whether one is broken inside the chicken and it is partially coming out. I have 10 chickens, of which 6...

    Poorly chicken-injury

So not celebrating just yet, crossing fingers, she is ok. She sat and slept all day. No food or drink consumed. Hubby comes home, and we give her a thorough examination once more. Her claws show no swelling, no infection. By now (7pm), she hasn’t eaten, drank or pooped at all. After the...

    Poorly chicken-injury

Yes I am in the UK, in Scotland. I’ll take and post pictures when hubby is home so he can take it while I hold her. So far no droppings in the crate. Will report on that when she does, along with pictures. Here’s one. What you see on the picture is sultanas next to her food, and not droppings...

    Poorly chicken-injury

I adopted a few ex-battery hens 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I noticed one of them didn’t leave the coop and was laying on its side, as if sunning herself in the dust bath. Normally when I enter the coop (large walk-in coop), they normally shuffle about. This poorly one didn’t move, and continued to...

    Tail down, diarrhoea and listless

@ ctrygran Rest of the chickens were fine. They are healthy and even started laying. Sorry to hear about your chicken. I doubt vet would have much to help other than determining the cause of death. I had cleaned out and sterilised the whole coop after the event. Now I am looking to buy a small...

    Tail down, diarrhoea and listless

Heart breaking really... Vet said post-mortem is free but I have to pay for cremation. That's the only way they dispose of the body and they won't give it back to me to bury it. So although the p/m is free, there's no other choice but to get it cremated. I opted out - if the remaining 3 die...
