Smallest egg I have ever seen lol

I had a tiny one as well from a RIR last fall,,,, just a wee bit bigger than a jelly bean...of course, my boys cracked it open and there was not a yolk in it, just the white...wish I could share a pic of it...

    Show off your roosters

Introducing Reggie, our RIR Rooster....he is blind in one eye, and doesn't crow..lol...he is living out his final days on my farm with my hens. We rescued him from a farm that didn't want him anymore. He loves to be handfed and follows us everywhere!

Free Range girls in my garden & landscape

My girls are free range and love, love, love the wide open areas. Unfortunately, the girls love my landscaping and rocks too. I am constantly sweeping rocks back into the landscaping. Is there such a thing as a "deterrent" (besides, penning the ladies back up) that anyone has used? I don't...

What do you recommend for the rest of the year regarding the light?

    Light or no light????

I have had chickens in the past and was always told to keep a light on during the night for better egg laying. Is this true? We are getting ready to have daylight savings time end here in Illinois, so it will be dark by 4:30 or 5 p.m. Any comments? What about a heat lamp? Is it necessary?

    Bumble foot?????

You are quite welcome....Hopper, my hen, is doing much better...I feel good about the decisions I made to operate. Without doing surgery, I am sure she would not have made it.... we are good buddies now!
