My five girls started laying where ever. My mistake I believe is I should have taking the nest boxes out of the coop and put them back in when they were ready. I put two tubs down where I found eggs and one has used it. One or 2 drop in the poop board. They are such pretty girls, I just wish...
I find that my girls love their sand box. Since I keep them confined, we made a sand box in the middle of their outdoor enclosure. It's on concrete so I put hay everywhere and they can jump into the sandbox. All 5 can fit in. We've had a heat wave in Texas so I have been wetting the sand down...
Hopefully I won't have to nurse an injured chicken but I will. I really loved my first flock but these 5 hens are all so affectionate. They will be coming inside if needed.
I have a a couple of questions about diaper care. They're reusable right? How do you have a separate wash area for this? I looked at some pictures of a chicken diaper, not to dissimilar from putting on a chicken saddle. I had to use them on my first flock. These hens I have now are just the...
I didn't have time to get a shade cloth but I want one. I put a beach umbrella in their run. I put lots of ice in their waterers, I wet their sand box. They can't dust bathe but all 5 lay in the wet sand. I give them frozen watermelon which they live.
Exactly how my girls handle it. I'm not worried about them, I just wanted some other opinions. These babies are going to have an all girls club. I plan to spoil them as much as possible. Thanks for the input.
Perhaps you might isolate Jane for a couple of days or so and then see if she still goes after Ethel. If it doesn't work try for a longer period. Maybe watching Ethel if possible but not being able to get to her wil allow Ethel to heal a bit and break Jane of the queen status a bit. Post if you...
I have 5 hens, no roo. They just started laying last week and I think 2 haven't started yet. They are the sweetest girls. I've been able to hold them, pet them. The same week I started getting eggs, they started something new. When I go in the pen and approach a hen, she squats in front of me as...
It's 4ft wide, 8ft long and 10ft high. Has upper level on one side for roost and nest boxes. It's set on concrete. Sand for floor over the concrete. Due to losses I'm now building covered run. Soon to have covered run on front as well. Carpentry curtesy of my sweet hubby. Suitable for 4-5. Other...
