Wonder if there was anything in/on the grass they ate yesterday. Herbicide/pesticide/fertilizer? So sorry you lost your babies.

    goose pairs question

So, ordering them from a hatchery when I order chicks may not be the best idea. Probably would be better to get them from someone reputable like Holderread's, huh?

    goose pairs question

When geese are sold as a pair, are those two from different parents (or are they supposed to be and you hope they really are)?

Has anyone ever raised Canada goose goslings?

Quote: So glad you cleared that up! I'm getting geese next spring, and thought I had missed something in my reading, about goose poop creating chloroform! I could just see the chickens and cats walking around the yard and passing out!

    Treats chickens DON'T Like

Mine love just about everything, including mashed potatoes, crickets from the bait shop, leftovers from supper, and I saw Pearl eat a tree frog one time. The only things I've seen them pass up are raw broccoli (they like theirs cooked) and basil.

OMG! my chick order just came in 1 is disformed helpp!!

One of mine was like that when she was a baby. We kept her with the others, but made sure they didn't pick on her and she was eating/drinking/pooping alright. After a few weeks it got better and she's fine now. I read somewhere it can come from them getting smushed by the others in the box.

smallest egg I have ever seen

One of my EE's laid a little green one like that the other day. I handed it to my DH and said, "Here, Eleanor made you breakfast today." It's a cute little thing. Do they have a yolk in them when they're that small?

    Gosling question

Thanks, y'all! I plan on ordering them in late March or early April, and by then it's "usually" in the mid to upper 70s here during the day. They sure are cute! Don't know how I'm gonna wait that long!

    Gosling question

I was wondering, though, if they have to have the 95 degrees like chicks do, gradually reducing each week. Also, do they have to stay in the brooder as long as chicks? I'd like to let them out in the grass pretty young (in their pen, though). I guess what I'm trying to ask is how long before...

    Gosling question

I'm planning on ordering a pair of day-old goslings in the spring, so I've started studying up on them now. Do you handle them pretty much the same as baby chicks, or differently? Do they need those same temp requirements and all? I'm planning on ordering some chicks at the same time, but I...
