My 17-week-old rhode island red has become REALLY obnoxious and loud lately. She sang the egg laying song once a week ago, but we haven't found any eggs yet. Do pullets who are about to lay start to get moody? Will this loud bawk-ing last?

My chicken is 16 weeks old and not yet laying. In this case, would the egg song most likely mean she is going to lay soon or could it still just be anything!
My chicken's water is FOREVER dirty - no matter how many times a day we dump it out. I have been looking into this "Avian Aqua Miser" ( http://www.avianaquamiser.com/ ), but it looks kind of weird. Has anybody used this product? I'm concerned that the chickens wont be able to get enough water...

Thanks! I heard somewhere that the pecking order is set from the first week of their lives together. Apparently that source was wrong! This explains a lot
As older chicks, the pecking order of our flock of four hens was very apparent. Lately, however, it's not so clear. The pullets are now 16 weeks old. The old "alpha" is now very sweet and another hen seems to be the bossy one. Is it possible for the pecking order to change this late?
I don't know about the product, but you might want to try dog-proofing the litter box.
If you have a small cat, you might be able to make a cover for the litter box with a small opening that the dogs head wont fit in. If your Italian Greyhounds have small heads, (which most do...) you might...
I've heard a lot of talk about feeding your chickens oyster shells. I was wondering if this is absolutely necessary or if we should only buy them if the egg shells seem to be a little thin.
