Costco (at least our Costco - Poway) sells an organic 40lb layer for around $19/bag... it's worth trying. FWIW, I'm in a co-op for Modesto Milling feeds; that helps save a lot of money.

I do! I sold off most of my breeders, but kept all the old ladies. I have about 25 hens, 4 ducks, 30 chicks and 6 ducklings now.

No, from two dozen. I had a bunch of late quitters, but had development in all but three eggs. I'm impressed!

Here's my successful little batch of TJ eggs. This was a fun experiment! Mine came from the Carmel Mt. Ranch (San Diego) Trader Joe's.

I'll be bringing a bunch of nice BBS Ameraucana pullets from Paul Smith's program; hatch date was 2/22/14. I won't bring any of the boys unless somebody needs one; I have both BBS and two Wheatens. (I also have one Isbar roo, and two blue Olive Eggers.)

Just adorable. I am a firm believer now in the power of duck cuteness!
