    Sick Duck, Any Suggestions?

I'm wondering if your duck is straining to pass the coins, from the symptoms that have you befuddled (butt up in the air, etc.). If so, perhaps some psyllium added to a little applesauce to hydrate it, would help the duck pass the coins? Do you think they're dimes or pennies, or nickels, or no idea?

    Sick Duck, Any Suggestions?

Normally DMSA is an Rx only item, but you can order DMSA online from from one place called Vitamin Research Products. They're an excellent company used by people who buy top-quality supplements. Here it is in the newer 25 mg size: http://www.vrp.com/digestive-health/dmsa To translate the...

    Sick Duck, Any Suggestions?

Do you think your duck swallowed a few dimes, then? From what I can see online...dimes from 1965 to the present are composed of outer layers of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel, bonded to a pure copper core. So, your duck could be suffering from copper toxicity (don't see anything yet on...

My female pekin duck is having seizures

It's possible your duck ate something that was contaminated with aflatoxins (from moldy substances), but that generally wouldn't cause it to end up on its back, paddling its legs. Another possibility is "flipover" disease, but that's more for younger ducks (ducklings to 2 mos old) and is more of...

My female pekin duck is having seizures

It looks like New Duck disease is rare in adult birds, but it does happen. Let me see what else would cause those symptoms. However, if it is New Duck disease, here's what that website lists as meds that can be put in the bird's drinking water: Antibiotic treatment: Sulfamethazine...

My female pekin duck is having seizures

Hi xobabydee, Catching your post early this morning...it sounds like your duck could have a bacterial infection called an anatipestifer infection (also known as New Duck disease or duck septicemia....could you read this page and see if her symptoms sound like this (does she also have...

    Duck has really bad foot!!!!!

Hi Hollie, I think your duck still has a good chance to make it if you can get some nanosilver solution into her, a couple tablespoons a day on an empty stomach. It's the best way to treat an infection that's complicated and unresolved, and not responsive to antibiotics. They should sell good...

What is this on his bill???

Miss Lydia, I'm sorry I didn't catch it is a call duck.... Incidentally, I've given grace to posters, and I can only hope that others will also give me the same grace. I can see that you've made many posts, and I don't want to feel as if I'm in some sort of power struggle with you, or with...

What is this on his bill???

Hi Fluffy Puffy, Wondering if your duck's bill has an off color...is it usually greenish? Haven't seen that color on a Pekin's bill yet, but then again, I don't visit other people's ducks too often. I hope it's not cyanotic, which would indicate a circulatory problem that could be part of...

    Crickets/Meal Worms

If you buy or breed mealworms, make sure they are for a treat but don't give your duck more than a few a day. There is the tendency to give your duck too much of them. Mealworms are the equivalent of duck crack, and the ducks will beg you for them at every opportunity. They will sit on the...

    Duck has really bad foot!!!!!

Oops, the duck's name is Ellie...don't know why I was thinking "Lucky". One more thing...after the duck's infection clears, it will need that broken leg tended to. Perhaps it could still be taped and splinted. It's not hard to do this, but I hope the leg hasn't set in a bad position already.

    Duck has really bad foot!!!!!

Taylolhol, I would add to what Amiga wrote...she gives you excellent advice for topical cleaning of the infection, that is, on the wound's surface. But that infection looks like it has gone into the duck's joint and could next become systemic, which would kill your duck (of a staph infection...

    What could have happened?

This sounds tragic. Ducks are definitely attracted by dripping water, and if the truck was leaking gas, it's very likely that Lucky got right under that leak and gobbled it up as it came down. It sounds as if he was poisoned by the gas. What position was he in when he died, just to rule out that...

Please take a look at this picture and tell me what I need to do---Duckling

Hi Kwijibo, Sorry about your little tyke. The next time a duckling can't swallow, you may be able to give him some plain unflavored slightly diluted Pedialyte with an eyedropper or with a little soft long nipple they use for feeding baby squirrels, or at worst with a soft skinny feeding tube...

Flipping on back and not being able to walk....

Hi Annabelle, Came across this thread just now...just a thought...if the niacin doesn't help, your ducks might be getting seizures from duck viral hepatitis, type 3. This is a slower form of DVH that can still strike at 8 weeks of age, and it would cause seizures such as the duck falling on its...
