    Birds Move Fake Eggs

Interesting. You would think that would encourage them to play with real eggs which of course would risk breakage. I've put out fake eggs plenty of times before in the last 6 years but never had them be moved.

    Hawk, Cat, or Other

The kill and feathers were under a leafless bush adjacent to a wooden fence. Most of the feathers were about 1.5 feet away. That particular bush is one of the places my birds like to hang out the most so I wasn't surprised that was were the kill was. I don't know what time of day. I came back at...

Review by '' on item 'Buckeye'

I've just had the one buckeye raised from a day old chick. I purchased her thinking that she might kill mice. I watched her completely ignore mice eating out of her feeder. I always had to go looking for her at night when she was missing from the coop. She would have gotten her self stuck in...

    Birds Move Fake Eggs

Anyone else have birds that move the fake eggs all into one nesting box? I put some fake eggs into the nesting boxes a few days ago and for the last three days the eggs have all been moved into the birds favorite nesting box. Based on the setup of the boxes, this is no easy feat. I feel like I...

Thanks everyone. Seems like it was a weasel.

    Hawk, Cat, or Other

Predator ate only the meat of the neck, leaving the head attached via trachea and spinal column. I assume that this couldn't have been done by the rest of the flock. 6 year old bantam rooster been with the flock for 5 years. The rest of the hens are full size or half bantam, between 1-2 years...

Show prepping a backyard bird for 1st show

I just signed up my serama bantam for a late January poultry show. I'm reading up on the how to's of show prep and could use a little advice. The bird has had free range of the backyard the last 3 years and I'm worried that if I put it in a rabbit hutch for 2 weeks before the show it will get...

Help my chicks are dead in seconds

I did go back to my feed and threw in some chick grit. Didn't lose any more once there was grit. They seemed very happy. Just started getting my first eggs from them.

No grit was the problem. I gave them chick grit and everything was ok.

Another Chicks 6mo not laying Question

Update and self-pity post. Saturday the 17th I got my first little white egg from one of the young birds, and a few more over the next few days. Yesterday morning I was washing dishes and heard a very immature but very distinct cockle doodle doo! I've had my doubts about one of my dorklings...

Another Chicks 6mo not laying Question

I got an assorted batch of day olds on March 10th. 2 silver grey dorklings, 2 americana, 1 buckeye, 1 sultan. The dorklings have been bigger than my 2 year old barred rock for about a month and the americanas are the same size. I've search the yard over and over at different times of day and all...

    Mystery Breed or Males?

When I ordered my chicks the box came with male packing peanuts. 10 dark colored chicks were clearly male and not part of the order, but there were 18 left and I had only ordered 14. Two of my flock are now characteristically different. I've attached a picture of the known female easter egger...

    Chicks Are Dead in Moments

Took away the feed yesterday and gave them some pureed veggies to hold them over until gave them starter feed this morning. The starter claims grit is not required with it. Haven't lost any more... yet.
