Tell How Predators Got Your Chickens. Save Somebody Else From The Bad Experience

I lost my first hen to the other 7 chickens. They turned on her for whatever reason and pecked her to death. I lost two to one of my dogs, they flew out of the run and the dog killed them. I harvested the rooster, and the other four I lost last week. One was completely gone, the other three had...

Hen attacked by the rest of the flock--UPDATE

I culled her this morning. In spite of my efforts, her neck wasn't getting any better. I used the broomstick method. I thought that would be the best way for her, not so much for me, (my first culling and ended up taking her head right off...eeeeek!!!) but she went really quick.

Hen being attacked by the rest of the flock

I have her separated already, she's got a gash in her neck from their attack. I set up a dog crate in our mudroom for her until at the very least, I can get her neck healed. She ate some eggs I cooked up for her, so I'm taking that as a good sign. I plan on keeping her separated for a while, and...

Hen being attacked by the rest of the flock

Hi all! I have one Roo and seven hens. One of the hens has a few feathers missing from her back, I had assumed it was caused by the Roo when he mounts her. Yesterday, I noticed that he's been trying to "run her out". She was walking along outside the run, and I happened to spot him beeline right...

    What is this noise?

My roo sounds like a coffee pot like that! He does it first thing when he exits the coop in the morning (right along with the ritual of stomping around) and he does it when he is throwing stuff around. I have no idea what he's trying to say, he may just like to hear himself talk.

    My chickens are chicken!

It's been two days now and my chickens will not come out of that coop. I'll open their door for them and they'll take a peek out here and there, but want nothing to do with that white stuff that has invaded their run. I went out there a few times today just to make sure all was well, they...

    Eating Snow

My chickens will eat the snow. At least they used to when they came out of the coop.

I don't know what to do with my rooster!

My advice is to rehome him or eat him. No way should you put up with that behavior from any chicken. If it wasn't for the fact that he already went after your little girl you could TRY to stop his behavior, but to me, that just isn't worth the risk of him really hurting her when he does it again.

    Our chicken's first snow, LOL!

Yeah, my chickens didn't want to come out when the snow first dusted the ground a few weeks back. Last night we finally got some accumulation and the only one brave enough to come out is the rooster. I can hear him clucking, I don't know if he's trying to coax my girls out of the coop or if he's...

I'm thinking I should have named him Whiz Bang.

My rooster (who normally is fairly nice, as in, gives me space) decided that he wanted to be the boss. I let the chickens out, and went to change their water. I was hunched over to put the new water in their dish and I felt wings flapping on the back of my legs. I spun around, and there is...

the things your chickens WILL NOT eat

Lettuce, cabbage and green pepper. They won't touch it. They'll eat the insulation off of the walls, though.

What Time Do Your Roosters Start Crowing In The Morning?

Mine starts crowing around 3:30 am. It's still black outside but he doesn't seem to care.

This is Vic Mackey, my Partridge Rock rooster. He's a handsome fellow.
