Does every flock have a complainer?

We have a Japanese Bantam that feels the need to yell about EVERYTHING! It's gotten to the point that if she isn't complaining I fear something has happened to her

    Multiple mommas in one coop?

We had an "oops" batch of fertiziled eggs that we let our broody hens sit on. Of the 16 hens we have, 6 went broody at the same time! Currently three of them have chicks they are caring for (1 has 3, 1 has 2 and 1 has 5) and are each in a separate area of the coop. At what point should i take...

Up here in AK the fresh eggs are in such demand that we sell them $6 a dozen as do all my friends. We have a small flock of 11 hens but last summer we had 9 (or 8 depending on our wanderer) and we got 8 eggs a day. We've always had more demand than supply.

All my chickens like one nesting box

We currently have 11 hens, 8 of which we know are laying. We have five boxes for the gals to lay in but we always seem to go in and find six eggs in one box and an egg or two in a different box. We have used the fake eggs but it doesn't get the gals to lay in the other boxes. Any ideas how to...

I wont do that to my dogs. One is older and has heart issues so its not worth the risk of loosing her

yes the voltage needed for a bear or moose would endanger my dogs and the chickens

We also have to watch out for moose here. They tend to step on the birds (not eat them) because they enjoy breaking into pens to steal chicken snacks.

Yes the birds I got are about 8 months old. Ironically since I started looking to replace my flock I have only been able to get silkies, aruacanas, japanese bantams, cochins, frizzles and brahmas all for 10 bucks each but for RIRs, Leghorn etc. There is a very limited stock up here in Alaska.

How much do you normally pay for a laying hen? I got my chicks for free when a friend had more hatch than expected. The seven I got this and last week cost me 10 a bird.
