Up here in AK the fresh eggs are in such demand that we sell them $6 a dozen as do all my friends. We have a small flock of 11 hens but last summer we had 9 (or 8 depending on our wanderer) and we got 8 eggs a day. We've always had more demand than supply.
We currently have 11 hens, 8 of which we know are laying. We have five boxes for the gals to lay in but we always seem to go in and find six eggs in one box and an egg or two in a different box. We have used the fake eggs but it doesn't get the gals to lay in the other boxes. Any ideas how to...
Yes the birds I got are about 8 months old. Ironically since I started looking to replace my flock I have only been able to get silkies, aruacanas, japanese bantams, cochins, frizzles and brahmas all for 10 bucks each but for RIRs, Leghorn etc. There is a very limited stock up here in Alaska.
How much do you normally pay for a laying hen? I got my chicks for free when a friend had more hatch than expected. The seven I got this and last week cost me 10 a bird.
