turkey with big bumps all over getting worse (pic)

Looks like fowl pox in the pic. When mine had it, I did lose several to it. I'm guessing secondary infection from having those nasty bump/wounds on the face. I put vit b in the water and anitbiotics which seam to help them. I now vaccinate all my chicks before they go outside and haven't (knock...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Do you ever get frustrated with your 'projects' (chicken)? I posted a couple days ago about how hard a time I have been having getting my Marans flock built up. Well today I come home and my nicest roo has somehow managed to break his neck. The only good thing about the day is I have 6...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi all...it has been awhile since I have been on here. It has been a long battle for 2 years for me trying to get BC Marans eggs to hatch. I can't afford a good incubator and while I can get decent hatches for my RIR eggs, can't seam to get much going for the choc eggs. I have also had major...

awwwwwww... I followed my new 'pet' back to his hole...

Sorry but it would be dead here. Possom carry EPM and I have horses along with chickens. If they stay in the woods (where they belong) I leave them alone. When they come on my side of the fence they are unwelcome. Have lost too many chickens to them( possom, coons, fox, ect) Thank-fully, I...

    Wow hubby buying horse

Mine doesn't ride. He made an attempt early in our marriage however, with age, a bad back and weight gain, it was no longer comfortable for him to do so. He is losing weight but I don't expect him to start riding with me again. He does support me though and doesn't mind me taking 'my' horsey time.

    about how old is she?*horse*

If this is an older Arabian and she was registered, check under her mane for a freeze brand. The freeze brand will tell all IF she has one.

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I vaccinate for fowl pox when my chicks go outside. Tired of losing them when they become teenagers. That seams to be when mine would contract the pox. Since I started doing this, I have not lost any to fowl pox. Now if I could just get better hatch on my Marans eggs. I currently have one...

    Nasty Dog Ears

Bad smell usually inicates yeast infection. Flush his ears with vinegar/water solution. After baths, use a bit of alchol to make sure the ears will dry out in case any water gets in there.

    Whats wrong with this picture?

Ok, I just asked my 6 year old dd. What is wrong with this picture? She said immediatly, he doesn't have any ears. So if a kid can notice that what was the artist thinking?

Does anyone else suffer from coop dissatisfaction?

Always...I have a brand new 10 x 10 coop for my Marans...with NO ROOF and can't get hubby to finish it. It has been sitting like this for nearly 2 months. My poor little flock (3 adults, 3 teenagers) is currently in a 4 x 10 pen with a box on the floor for a nest box.

How to vaccinate for Fowl pox??

I have been vaccinating for fowl pox my last several hatches as I had the same problem. Once they have been exposed, I don't think vaccinating them will help, you just treat the symptoms. On my chicks, I just hold in one hand with a thumb under the wing to lift it away and 'pin prick' the...
