Not a "cute" picture, but MAN - these chickens feather in fast! Almost 2 weeks old and wings are almost completely feathered, tails are feathered, and the buff orpingtons (not pictured) are starting to get feathers on their backs! This is one of our Barred Rocks. Daphne (barred rock) is still...
LoraV: Oh, I hope Teeni makes it!! She is so cute! It sounds like she's doing better!
Jewellan: I really, really want a Cream Legbar. Such pretty chickens and then they have blue eggs! Your chicks are beautiful!
Here are our chicks, 1 week old:
Sheila - our Australorp chick. She's the...
My Australorp looks like your Brahma as far as feathering goes. NO tail feathers and just a few wing feathers. Otherwise happy and healthy, though! She used to be my friendliest chick and now she's the flightiest. One of our Barred Rocks is so friendly she runs up and jumps in my hand! The...
Here are my babies, at 1 week of age!
Buffy, a Buff Orpington.
Sherlock, a Buff Orpington. Wing and tail feathers!
Daphne, a Barred Rock.
Letty, a Barred Rock.
Sheila, an Australorp. Slower to develop feathers than the others - no tail feathers yet. Please don't be a...

Mine is little, too. I think they must mature slower than the other breeds. So far, my BO's are the fastest maturing, the BR's are next, then my little Australorp!
That sounds so cool! I wonder what kind of chicken it was?
We didn't make it to the fair this year.. I thought about taking my younger son, but my older one would have been upset that he didn't get to go, too (he was in Kid's College at JCC all week). Sigh... we may try to go to the Warren...
Mine are starting to get tail feathers now. The buff orpingtons are definitely feathering out the fastest, followed by the Barred Rocks. My little Australorp doesn't have any pin feathers on her tail yet.
We just had chicks shipped. The first shipment died, unfortunately - they were shipped with a heat pack (4 chicks) and may have been mishandled by the post office.. but the consensus seems to be they died of heat stroke/hot car. The second shipment arrived on Tuesday (this past Tuesday) - NO...
