I found one on me as well after I closed the pen for the night. What happens if they get on humans in the house? Will they reproduce? Help! I'm now freaked out.
I love Amerucana's. I had a beautiful one. Unfortunately, She was killed by a neighbor's cat. I was so upset as she had the absolute best personality and always chattering especially when I came to see her. We got a new one and she is very skittish and runs if we come near her. Both laid green eggs.
I have a hen that socializes during the day but during the evening, when all go inside the coop, she prefers to stay in the run on her perch. I thought it was because the weather was so beautiful. She's not at all skiddish when by herself..she lets me pick her up and pet her. When she is...
Mine crows starting around 4:00 a.m. And doesn't stop for a long time, sometimes 2-3 hours. Needless to say, he is not winning any popularity contests in m neighborhood whereby we have small lots.
I was trying to find out the same thing. Now that it's dark earlier, they head up to their coup around 7-7:30. Unfortunately, my roo starts crowing around 4:30 and he is not popular with me or the neighbors. Tonight I kept a light on until 10 hoping he will sleep in later.
Anyone have any...
I had a similar situation. Loved all the same, but the crowing got out of control. Then they started ganging up on my best hen. She went from ruler of the roost to hiding and running. Broke my heart. I know have one rooster and 5 hens and that works for me. I still am not crazy about the...
Great thanks. Anything worth a try. I just put a light on in their house for about 3 extra hours over normal sunset. Let's see if I've had to stay up past his normal bedtime:)
Hopefully yes and he sleeps in
I have 2 hens with the exact same thing. They are all around their faces, do not appear to move so I couldn't tell what it was. I dust their sleeping quarters and laying boxes with DE regularly. Could it be not enough application? My next step was going to dust each hen with DE as well. We...
Thank you. That sounds easier, but my rooster is pretty large..see my photo and I've never held him since he got large. Either way he may put up a fuss. Is the box made out of wood, with air holes drilled and some sort of latch? Would you just make it a little above his normal height?
