Egg bound 1 week ago, no eggs since

Update on my egg bound hen. She was egg bound 6/30, laid a lash egg 7/14, laid 2 extremely soft shelled eggs within a 12 hour period on 8/8 and laid a regular, full sized egg, on 8/14! Now to see if she will continue to lay! After the lash egg (did not contain any pus, when cut open a bit of...

Egg bound 1 week ago, no eggs since

Thank you both. If Buffy never lays again, that is fine with us, our hens are also our pets. She is definitely acting normally right now. Anyone else with egg bound experience?

Egg bound 1 week ago, no eggs since

Hi, Buffy, our Buff Orpington (just turned 2 years), was egg bound last Saturday. I gave her electrolytes, soaked her in warm water; then while drying her in a towel on my lap heard something that sounded like she pooped. Nope- laid the egg in my lap! The egg was surrounded by egg yolk. The...

    Chicken related gifts

Fun topic- I came on here to ask the same question! I got a "Chicken trivet" from my brother-in-laws. It is hand crocheted from Canada. I foresee it getting a lot of use in our kitchen!

Places to get quality feed in Silicon Valley/San Jose CA Area?

I've been buying Modesto Milling Layer crumbles for about a year. Pet Food Max in San Jose carries it and now An Jan in Santa Clara does as well. (25 lb bags which is great for my 3 girls.) Both stores had pretty old feed the last time I went to get it- 2 months or more old. So I grabbed some...

    Yokeless Egg

Could hot weather cause a yokeless egg? Found this today. The one next to it was her egg from 9/2 (53 grams)- hasn't laid the past 2 days - and today this 16 gram yokeless egg. It was very gelatanous. We have had very hot weather for the past 4 days- high 90's to 110 - and staying very warm...

    Broody Hen

To add to Abriana, once my broody stopped being all fluffed up and acting broody, I let her out and watched to see what she would do. First time she headed for the coop- back in the breaker till the next day. Next day- no issue- started grazing with the other gals, didn't go to the coop till...

    First Broody Breaking Success!

Congrats! Took 2 1/2 days for my black australorp. Wish I had the breaker set up when she first went broody- spent 3 days doing the "pull her out of the nest box routine"!

    2 New behaviors-what the?!

Best of luck to you! The key for me was to make sure the broody cage was elevated so that cool air got under and to her belly. I had it on bricks - at first she just laid down on the cage floor- same "broody" position. So I put the bricks on their side - more air- she climbed up on the little...

    Egg changed colors after Broody

You made me laugh! Thanks!- I had not seen anything about eggs changing colors! Was so surprised when I went out yesterday- there it was. My husband says- "who laid that???" We are so use to 2 brown eggs and one green. thanks again!

    2 New behaviors-what the?!

I played the "pull the hen out of the next box" and "block the box" for a couple of days - no help she did whatever she could to get back in there! Then I got a wire dog crate- put it up on blocks and her in it - 2 1/2 days and she was all done with her broodiness. No eggs from her for 17 days...
