Red tail hawk is killing our flock

I just have a question for everyone here,,,,,, If you're not willing to protect your live stock with the same diligence and force that you would protect your family, why do you even have 'em? To me, they're my children and I will do whatever I have to do to keep 'em safe from whatever threat...

Red tail hawk is killing our flock

Oh' yeah, several times. He thought it was funny saying, 'He's just doing what dogs do'. He ain't laughing no more. I wasn't the only land owner his dog would pester. Apparently he felt leash laws didn't apply to him. Once the dog started killing, there was only one way to stop him, and to show...

Red tail hawk is killing our flock

You can take care of the problem or you can continue to loose live stock. As generations grew they teach their offspring where to find the easiest food sources. Failure to deal with the issue puts your buffet on the top of their menu. Hey, if you want to feed the wild life that's up to you, me...

    Feather Fixer vs Flock Block

Thanks for the answers, that's what I figgered'. Like most wives, mine thinks I'm a DUMAS' and the salesman knows better then I. The salesman has probably been told to push the blocks out the door to get rid of 'em. Well, I guess it's another trip to the store to get the feather fixer. Thanks all.

Red tail hawk is killing our flock

12 gauge with 6 shot has always worked best for me. It was also a great way to finally end the feud with the neighbor about his dog running loose and chasing my chickens, ducks and geese. When the dog finally killed a goose and 2 ducks, well, the dog doesn't run loose any more.

    Feather Fixer vs Flock Block

Has anyone ever used a product called 'Flock Block'. My wife went shopping today and I ask her to get a bag of feather fixer, well, she come home with a flock block. Seems the salesman talked her into it. We have a few chickens that have been rooster worn and need fixin'. I removed the roosters...

    Magpie Breeding

I've inherited, so to speak, a Magpie male duck. I already have other ducks that are paired. I currently have this Magpie in a different coop then the paired ducks. My question is, What other breeds of female ducks are mate compatible with this Magpie male. I don't want him to be alone with the...

Help with a hen crop issue

In the military we used to say you have to be 10% smarter then the equipment you're trying to operate. It will be interesting to see who has the 10%, me or the chicken. :lau

Help with a hen crop issue

I have a hen that was listless this morning. I picked her up and her crop felt like a balloon. All puffed up. Any ideas what this could be and how I can treat her. Thanks, Rick
