Very poor design but it does do what it advertises. Never had water freeze in it. You absolutly cannot hang this thing by the handle and it MUST sit very level or it will simply empty itself on your floor. To fill it is a chore which is easiest if you just dump a bucket of water on yourself...
I received some game hens from a friend of a friend many years ago. I integrated them in my fathers flock of 25 or so birds. Sadly my father became very ill and we spent quite a bit of time at a hospital out of town. During our absence, predators (unknown) ravaged the flock killing them all...
I used to have issues with Coopers Hawks but never Red Tails. Lots of redtails around but they never seem to give the birds a second look. There is little you can do other than providing them with a covered run but I might suggest a dog. I know that hawks are very reluctant to come to the...
My 2cents I dont feed my chickens horse feed but they do seem to get a lot of it via my sloppy eating mare. They beat feet to the barn when I let them out as they know I am going to feed the horse. She tends to drop a lot when she eats and they clean up every bit. They also do a lot of picking...
In my experience, the chicks raised by a broody hen are superior to the hatchery birds I have raised. I allow the hen to raise them amongst the flock rather than isolate them, so they are easily integrated into the flock without issue. They seem to feather out quicker and have no issues with...
I was just on the Mount Healthy Website and saw the so called Dixie Rainbows. If no two of these chickens look alike, how do you know what they are really sending you? Very odd.

The OP isn't wanting to learn to HUNT predators
They merely want to shoot predators ATTACKING the birds.
A 22 is all that is needed for a beginning shooter, and it will take care of all the problems without being overpowered
Why make things harder than they need to be?
That's right...
I use a 10 mile fencer on my coup run. I have a single strand about 7 ft above the ground just below the top of the 1/2" hardware cloth walls. The Fence is buried in the ground and also connected to the ground rod so it acts as the ground for the hot wire. A hot wire alone will not work if the...
There is NO WAY to scare it off permenatly. Raccoons are nasty little vermon that are relentless once they discover a food source. They are very clever and can exploit the smallest of access points.
Solutions
1 High velocity lead. Works every time if you can catch them in the act.
2 Live...
Going to suggest something a little different as far as caliber goes. For Lightweight, low recoil and terminal balisitcs, you cannot beat a 243 Winchester. There are several bullet options ranging from 100gr to the new Hornady 58 grain varmit round that sizzles at over 3900 FPS. The...
There are just too few hens for two roosters. There is no nice or mean to it, they are roosters and thats what they do. You need to rehome one of those roosters for sure or get a lot more hens as they are fighting for dominance over your very small flock.
A seperate entrance and space for human types that allows you to gather eggs and not actually go into the coop. Also good for storing feed etc.
Space under the coop that will always reamin dry and provides shade and dust bath areas.
A large (slider in my case) door to access the coop for clean...

Cannot comment on Feral dogs as I dont have that issue. Hawks however are another matter. I believe its a felony to shoot a hawk or other such bird of prey so DONT DO IT. We have lots of Coopers Hawks around here and Redtails. I have yet to see a Redtail pay the slightest attention...
There is nothing like a long bath in warm broth to show him whos boss. Seriously its not worth the injury to a child to have a Man fighting rooster around, his beauty or genetics will be little comfort if someone is harmed.
