The Bay Area Costcos even have organic chicken food for $15 per bag. I stocked up when I was there. Maybe we will get organic down here too someday.

Does anyone have any fertile turkey eggs for sale? I am just looking for regular birds to be used for meat - nothing fancy. Thanks!

Sorry I have been so absent lately. I have been running around like a lunatic getting ready to retire. I finally pulled the plug last week and am no longer among the employed. So far retirement has been busy. I am already wondering how I ever had time to work. With any luck, I should have...

I have 2 cream legbar roosters that are looking good, but I am not going to use. Let me know if you are interested. Rooster 1 has very good light coloring, a slightly crooked comb, and a moderate crest. Rooster 2 has a bit darker coloring, but a super straight crest and seems to be...

Oh Dana, you are so in trouble....muhahahah I had no idea DIckeys made a 180 egg cabinet incubator. I have the 300 egg job and it is awesome. Happy hatching! Also - so jealous of the clear door - I may have to look into that. Jeez chickens can get you into so much trouble.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Yes, that is what I thought. I have been reading about all the green eggs people have been getting from Rhodebars as mine have been growing out. I was more than a bit relieved and very pleasantly surprised when the first egg arrived and was solidly in the brown camp. Whew. One down with proper...

I have a black sex-link that I was using for comparison and the rhodebar egg was actually a little bit darker and slightly less pink than the black star egg. I was surprised that the rhodebar egg was more brown than the sex linked egg. I will try and get some pictures to post.

Haha...I had not considered making stew. Maybe I should go into business at the farmers markets...free range, locally raised, wild caught (cough)squirrel stew. Oh, the possibilities.

We had a huge squirrel problem. Then we got the squirrenator. Bait it with chicken feed. We trapped something like 90 squirrels last year. They are much more manageable this year.

I think I may have gotten in over my head here, but what else is new? Anyway, we went horseback riding on vacation and my son has been talking about it ever since. So I was thinking about sending him to some sort of equine camp this summer, as I know nothing about horses. Does anyone know of a...

    The Legbar Thread!

About the white gene and it's expression. Here is my experience with it. I had a white rooster and a hen who was a carrier. I was expecting to get 50% white offspring from this pairing. However, much to my surprise only about 10% of the offspring were white. This perplexed me that I was not...

Official BYC Poll: Why Do You Have Chickens - Select All That Apply

I initially purchased chickens for eggs and to keep as a pet. however after having them appreciate their ability to control bugs, make great fertilizer, entertain me and also as a small source of additional income from selling chicks and hatching eggs. It is sort of guilt free money that I can...
