@sphinxface There are very few Brabanters in the US that come close to the standard and that's not taking into account the 'which standard are you using' questions.
I can't say I know much, but my understanding was that the first importation was by H&H in Texas. Finding a breeder seems...
Aww you used my picture I feel honored
I love Brabanters at the moment they are the only chicken I want to own...my daughter has other ideas, but I'm the one who chooses what eggs to hatch
European Brabanters don't have wattles but American ones have huge ones like the Spitz. I can't say...
@Sally Sunshine
The first hatch I assisted getting two chicks out, one did not make it. The 2nd half of the staggered hatch I got 3/6, which was good in my mind.
I have restocked the incubator and have 12 of my Brabanter eggs on day 10ish. about 9 of them look like they are developing.
Welcome, you leave the chicks in till they are dry and fluffy. From day 18 on you shouldn't open your incubator if you can help it.
If you have a large hatch you can get in there and take some out but hey usually don't need food or water for about 3 days after hatch, so there is no rush to get...
@daxigait Hey I wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU! I've been at work all day and haven't got an opportunity to respond but your questions kept me thinking. I knew what would happen if I did nothing.
My last attempt at a assisted hatch just prolonged the chick's pain and I didn't want to...
OK, I got chance to check in. the two zipped were still chirping, but the other 4 were silent.
I was short on time so I broke the top off both the zipped and sprayed in warm water, careful to avoid their beaks I also sprayed water all over the place hoping to get a huge rise in humidity. I...
No I didn't do anything but add water. After a bad experience trying to "save" a weak chick I try to stay hands off and let nature take it's course. I got six more about a week out We'll see how they do.
Soooo bummed. I set my egg not realizing I had to be out of town for the hatch. Thursday I put them on Lock down. Friday night I added extra water and left town. When I got home super late I saw two had zipped but not opened and 1 pipped. My humidity had dropped although I'm now question my...
I went into lockdown last night. All six are still going so I hoping for the best. I have six more eggs about 10 days behind that I locked up in a strawberry plastic case. They will have to deal with minimal turning the next few days. I was able to get the humidity up to about 70% as of this...
