I know that I tried it but only a few times. Others have been more serious about it and reported it didn't work on this breed. Certainly you can make some guesses and write it down and see what happens but at best it seems results would be inconsistent.
Many have tried feather sexing this breed and it doesn't work for Swedish. Swedish Cockerels do tend to color in differently than pullets so before you are able to tell by comb, the color can be a clue but it will take experience raising up a few to be able to learn to use this to help.
Thank you bluejean55girl for the referral. This is my byc ID. The girls have really gotten slow on laying due to the heat and going into molt but I could probably manage a doz.
For some of mine, 4/5 mo is when they looked their worst! lol So sometimes you just to be patient on the wing thing however if the bird isn't otherwise nice enough to want to keep, of course no need to bother but if you end up with a boy ( and the boys seem especially prone to having those...
I can see from your comments that you are going to be "picky". That is GOOD! All of us that know, will cull for split wing however a juvenile cockerel may appear to have split wing for a while while he is still in his "gawky" period. I have seen this can be around 3 to 8 months. They are...
I am actually in Livingston which is straight up North from Houston. I do sell eggs and ship chicks and started birds but I sure didn't want to say that in what I was saying about GFF as it might seem like I was trying to sell birds. This is not what this is about.
btw I bred and showed...
as was said by KTy previously, Swedish Flower hens do not have barring. Well they hadn't until this most recent group of supposedly "pure" SFH's they imported . I know someone that bought some of their chicks a few months ago and she got one in the batch like yours. This is not correct for the...
If you want some at a better price watch rarebreedauctions.com for GFF listings there. You can get GFF birds for much less than what they sell for off their website directly.
I highly doubt an hour would cause any harm. Think about the hen getting off the next to eat and drink. She does this daily and she could easily end up off nest an hour. At least your eggs were still in the incubator so their cooling was slowed down even more than if they were in a nest that the...

I have seen some blue eyes out of direct GFF birds as well as the red/orange. These blue eyes were on young birds, under two to 3 mo, so I don't know if they would stay blue but they were definitely blue and the parents were from GFF. The parents to these chicks had reddish orange eyes...
I have a trio of black English orps. Pullets started laying in January. I get a lot of eggs with air cells down on the side of the egg. Of the eggs I have incubated, those that were fertile with the misplaced air cells have not hatched. I have not had this problem with any of my other breeds...
The story behind this is that this rooster is in a pen with many other roosters and two female LGD's. This particular rooster has taken a real liking to the dogs where there are no hens around. So, in the true spirit of "making due" with that you have..... lol This rooster climbs on the backs on...
I think you should file a claim. If we all file claims and cost them money when we get clearly abused eggs we can get our point across and yes, it may very well help future shipments.
I AGREE! Unfortunately many people don't see it that way. I also know some really don't even care if they can get away with passing something off as a "rare breed" if they think they will make money with it.
