I have never found a solar option with a timer on them. Many have Photo cell switches that turn on at dusk and off at dawn independent of or combined with motion detection. I just ran a 300 ft line underground and replaced my hardwired light switch with a hardwired timer unit.

Sometimes it is just weird where they lay their eggs. I use roll away boxes and most of my leghorns love them unless put golf ball in there. If they see a golf ball they stop using the nest. They will also stop using the nest boxes if they see several of my other leghorns laying in a corner...

I now set my hatch date on weekdays so I am not tempted to check on them every 5 minutes like I did on a weekend hatch. It's a little more stressfull being at work thinking about everything that's going on but I never had a problem with anything not hatching due to the others rolling around...

Is there any other material than plastic covering the walls of the run? I can see that being pecked/ripped/clawed open enough to let the chickens out or something else in.

Just attach 1/4" construction mesh to the chain link that is already there. No removal required. Just be sure to skirt the kennel to keep digging pests out.

Like those toy vending machines that has little prizes in the bubble or a snack machine that holds cartons? Either way don't sound simpler than 1)take money 2)give eggs.
