I have about a 2 inch lip on the front of boxes, thinking it would keep it in...Noda. its like my hay isnt good enough for them, lol. Feeding chickens maggots?

@Farmer Connie, rest assured....hand washing is not in this picture..lol..Figured more like some screen wire over a 5 gal. bucket, letting the screen sag in just a tad, and a gentle hosing off, then to a clean pal for fasting.. By no means am i trying cut out any feed rations, but heard that...

    Feeding chickens maggots?

While me and my son were out around the quail pen today we found maggots had grown in the food droppings and quail poo under the pen. I have read that many people give them to their chickens for protein or for snacks. I have also read about chickens getting "Limp Neck" due to Botulism. Does the...

    Egg ID

Got all of my chicks @ https://www.facebook.com/eggwell.farm/ a local NPIP farm. Maybe my sexlinks are laying... None of them are "Large" eggs, prolly a medium in size, but that may be due to "Just started laying"? Dont the copper Marans lay a dark chocolate egg? thanks.

    Laying feed Question

E-gawd! thats cold..lol..Im in SC. so we dont many temps that low. I was just worried about giving them all the extra Calcium, when its really not needed for egg production.Again, it does make sense to set out shells for "as wanted" calcium. and prolly give them flock manager, or multi-flock...

A couple of my chickens have started to lay. I have 15 hens and 1 Rooster in this flock, but 6 of the hens are about 4/5 weeks younger than the other girls...How, and when should i start giving them Layer feed? It would be hard to feed separately, but didnt want to hurt the younger hens by...

    EE Rooster Question

I have noticed my EE rooster, which is about 17 weeks old has started grabbing a few of my hens by the back of the neck, but has not tried to mount, or not that i have seen. Is this a sign of him maturing, and will be trying to mount soon?

    Help with breeds

The lighter one is full size. I have a grown EE hen, but it never had the nice color this one has, she was always a typical redish brown mix. The 3rd one is a descendant from the Loch Ness monster..lol

    New Quail Home

Thanks...No it doesnt have a second wire under, but a good idea. its about 3ft up, but a racoon can stretch up that far easily, got my mind going, thanks. I have added some plywood in part of the flooring system to give their feet a break from the wire. So far its great, the auto waterer is...

    Help with breeds

I think i have nailed down most of the breeds in my recent backyard mix hatching, but would like some opinions on a few. 4/5 week olds. The lighter one is gorgeous, it reminds me of a bald eagle, but ive no idea what breed, much less sex. The lil grey feathered footed one is a bantam cochin, i...

Chicks are ok, and hopefully were expecting some lower temps next week. Spent allot of time around the coops today and the wee ones seemed to be adjusting to the big boy home, playing in the sand, etc...just went out @ dusk dark to do a final check, and they were chirping up a storm as if...
