What treat did your chickies get today?

Today, as they have the last few days, they are eating the maggots that keep getting laid in the 1/2 pig head I gave them. I've been googling to see if the rotten meat (which they aren't eating, just the maggots) will do any harm, but haven't found anything to the contrary. They are also...

Chicken coop is very muddy! help please UPDATE

You'll need the coarsest, most natural sand possible so it can drain. I think beach sand may work if it fits that description. We desperately need to de-muck, gravel and sand my run. There is so much rain here now that my run is like poop soup. It's so mucky and gross that I was crying this...

Hi, we spoke a couple of weeks ago about the auto sex pullets. You said you would be able to hold onto some if I gave you a deposit. My question is which auto sex female breeds do you currently have left? I may just want to buy them now as long as they are out of the brooder. Thanks. Vicki...

    Lighting the coop

Ok, I guess my question is not being understood. I have the automatic door, open at dawn closes at dusk. I wanna put a light in the coop to keep the girls laying, that is after they eventually start laying cause they aren't old enough to do so yet, but when they eventually do I don't want...

    Lighting the coop

I understand where your coming from. My girls just aren't old enough yet. They will probably start in November sometime. When they do I want them to continue thru the winter, not slow down. I am concerned with the light waking them up early and the sensor not opening the door yet.

    Lighting the coop

Hi all, I want to put a light in the coop, it's their first year and they haven't started laying yet so I don't want them to stop once they get started. This is my situation. I have an automatic door that is solar powered with a light sensor. It works perfectly. If I set a light in the coop...

Day old Chicks!!: 40+ breeds available: English Orpingtons, Auto Sexing Breeds, Partridge Brahmas,

If you were to grow out the group I mentioned until they are off heat how much would they cost? We currently don't have a brooder and it's getting cold here in northern NJ. I do have a large dog crate, metal all around to integrate them once they are in our coop, but that's it. Any...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Hi all, what's your opinions on fermenting feed in the winter. I mean how do you do it in the cold. I don't add starters to my ferment. Will it still ferment with the cold weather as I know to start yeast for baking you need warmth. I don't wanna lug it to the house for the winter, what should...
