i had a tom turkey develop this suddenly. It did go away on its own in about a week to 10 days.
I googled this just now because I have a rooster who suddenly developed this in his whole head and it looks like it's blocking his trachea. It's gotten worse in the last 24 hrs since I first found...
Hi! I didn't say that artificial lighting is the cause of ovarian cancer, but excessive laying sure is! There are literally hundreds of studies documenting the effects of excessive ovulation on domesticated laying hens (and on humans!) and its incredibly strong link to ovarian cancer. Here are...
...It is considered to be less efficacious than CVI 988 (Rispens), but more efficacious than HVT (see below).
3. HVT (Turkey Herpes Virus) Vaccine ** Vaccines made available by several Internet Web suppliers are mostly in freeze-dried (lyophilized) form and contain only HVT. The freeze-dried...
That coop is incredibly small for 6 hens, and I hope they are only in that at night to sleep. I know the box says it's made for xxx hens, but that really is incorrect, and it's a shame that the coop manufactureres get away with that kind of mass disinformation.
Anyway, this isn't really...
I have had hens implanted over 100 times in the last five or so years. (I have a chicken sanctuary, and most are industrial laying hens who have horrendous repro disease.) They do become lethargic and go off their food for a few weeks most of the time post-implant. Sometimes they stay forever...
So just in case anyone was wondering, @casportpony, this turkey hung on for three months and then died the day after a vet visit around April 7th I think. I sent his body to the lab and the necropsy results showed it was Marek's disease -- not blackhead disease, not cancer, andd not any of the...
He's not good. The vet(s) have said that all I am doing is "making him comfortable" and that we will never know what the pathogen is until necropsy. So, the next time you ask how he is, his body will prob be on its way to necropsy lab.
Yeah, no -- I know the diff between cecal poops and regular poops and I have a gallery of all his poops in the last 3 weeks. Want me to post some of them here? Doesn't matter, he's going to UC Davis tomorrow for 2nd opinion b/c tomrrow is the earliest possible appt. If he starts dying tonight...
same. Every day, same thing. Slight decline possibly. Day 4 or 5 of the Emtryl (dimetrazole) powder at 50 mg/kg. ......
sulfur colored diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, depression, oh ..well now he doesn't want to drink anymore. I guess that is the biggest change over the last few days.
I totally was about to do that, literally. I have pellets in a little container in the kitchen to feed to my obese meat bird, who's in the kitchen for bumblefoot soakings. I do think it breaks down so quickly in warm water into such small particles that it might pass through a feeding tube. I...
hmmm. I saw the oxbow critical care formula on the shelf at my vet's office the other week and asked her about it and she said no, not for birds. No way is he going to be alive long enough for any mail-order items to get here. I am just going to PM you. or DM you, or whatever the appropriate...
yes, that is my regimen. He is going through bags of LRS and jars of Kaytee like there is no tomorrow because the digestion is so fast. I kind of think there might be a concurrent problem because I feel a thickening of his crop wall, but the standing DV didn't really show anything weird to the...
...rational and eloquent, but you get the gist.)
And he is more or less the same today since I swiched to dimetrazole. There are moments of "holy ****, are you dying??" and moments of where he is bright and engaged. Some moments he is panting; other moments he is looking around and pecking at...
Girlfriend, you are preaching to the choir, because I am already there with each and every single thing you listed.
May I present to you Exhibit A, featuring (clockwise from left): Denmarin, Valbazen, panacur, Baytril, and Dexamethazone. (Not pictured: Vit K injectible, feeding tube&syringes...
Yes, I totally get it. I have been seeing this avian vet for the last 5 years. I stopped the metronidazole last night because it has been 2 weeks and he only gets worse. He's been on baytril 20 mg/kg plus sc fluids plus tube feeds with probiotics and milk thistle and living in my kitchen on a...

I guess i am just wondering if this is truly the best tx for histamoniasis b/c the megadose of metronidazole is doing nothing. He is even worse today than ever before and might be dead before tomorrow. Yes, i went to vet twice and she told me to continue the megadose and that she knows nothing...
